Bank Kerapu WW2 Memorial

A good place to begin the visit is at the Bank Kerapu war museum in Kota Bharu. It has a number of wartime memorabilia, information and artefacts of the war.

This is a Browning 7.62 mm machine gun with a bent barrel that was found in the ground near the Kota Bharu airport. This was the machine gun of the Royal Australian Air Force's Lockheed Hudson I aircraft of either No.1 Squadron or No.8 Squadron that attacked the Japanese transports and landing crafts on the beach. It was later left behind at the airfield when the British fled hastily southward.

This is an Australian monument to the RAAF pilots who were killed in the battle during the Japanese landing.
